Kentucky River Foothills Development Council, Inc. is Hiring a Floating Teacher Near Richmond, KY

Position: Floating Teacher

Reports To: Center Director

Compensation: PT/Non-Exempt Position

Summary: The Floating Teacher’s responsibility is to assist the director, assistant director, lead teacher, assistant teacher, and/or cook as needed throughout the center. The Floating Teacher must be efficient at supervising children, ensuring the safety and physical well-being of the children, maintaining regular communication with parents, and contributing to the effective operation of the overall center. The Floating Teacher reports to the lead teacher and the assistant teacher in the classroom they are covering.

Essential Functions:

Read, understand, and adhere to the KRFDC Handbook as well as ESH CDC Staff Handbook.

Responsible for classroom activities and duties in the absence of the lead teacher and assistant teacher.

Assist in conducting an effective child development program that meets student’s needs and is developmentally appropriate for their given classroom.

Ensure classroom routines are carried out in a prompt, hygienic, and consistent manner.

Ensure the safety and well-being of all students in their care.

Operate the classroom in a manner that complies with all state licensing regulations.

Maintain a pleasant and inviting classroom while covering in a classroom.

Provide positive guidance to help children develop self help skills.

Provide students with a learning environment where they can learn, explore, create, and grow.

Participate in on-going professional development through education, role modeling or mentoring.

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with ESH CDC as well as KRFDC policy. Respect and maintain rights and privacy of all staff, parents, and children.

Ensure implementation and completion of weekly lesson plans in the absence of the lead and assistant teachers.

Oversee supervision and management of children in the classroom to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy learning environment.

Maintain the adult/child ratio.

Maintain limits for behavior which are appropriate and consistent.

Participates in program and/or agency fund-raising activities as directed by supervisor.

Performs all other duties, as assigned.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:

Reliable, cooperative, and willing to accept supervision.

Show evidence of emotional maturity and stability.

Individuals must clearly demonstrate the interest and ability to work effectively with children and adults.

Minimum age of 18.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Show commitment to overall mission of ESH CDC and KRFDC.

An understanding of child development.

Other Requirements:

Pre-employment/Random Drug Screening/Criminal Record Checks per Agency policy.

TB Skin Test, INH card, or Risk Assessment prior to employment.

Infant/child CPR and FA certification.

Must have a valid Kentucky Driver’s License and the flexibility and willingness to change schedules and duties as needed according to staff availability.

Must maintain a high level of professionalism, demonstrated by a positive attitude, ability to function as a team member, and a commitment to the overall mission of the agency.

Number of Days:

Staff working in the Eastern Scholar House Child Development Center are scheduled year-round except for holidays, Winter Break, and Summer Break as listed on the Center Calendar.

In the event of inclement weather, fiscal constraints, and/or program needs; actual number of days may be reduced.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position requires occasional or frequent moderate physical activity. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or exert force up to 40 pounds.
